Luke 3:3 records “Then John went from place to place on both sides of the Jordan River, preaching that people should be baptized to show that they had repented of their sins and turned to God to be forgiven.”
This verse captures the two-fold purpose of water baptism:
- To let people know you’ve repented of your sins. To repent is to turn away from something. When you become a Christian you turn away from sin.
- To let people know you’ve turn to God to be forgiven. When you repent you not only turn away from sin, you turn towards God.
When you have turned from sin and turned to God your very next step is water baptism. Our next water baptism at New Day is this Sunday (March 8, 2015). You can sign up to be baptized at all three services. To sign up click here.
